Activities

Karanambu Activities

Each day Karanambu offers guided activities based on the season, availability
and guest interests. These activities are usually timed for early in the morning and again in the late afternoon into evening; in addition to being the coolest parts of the day these are also the best times for viewing wildlife. Trips may be on the river by boat, on the savannah by vehicle or along a range of forest trails on foot.

Sip Rum Punch With A Queen

Karanambu boasts the world’s best wild collection of Victoria amazonica – with lily pads in some ponds up to 6ft across and blossoms almost 2ft width. It’s a special treat sitting as these queens of the floral kingdom delicately unfurl at sunset while sipping Karanambu’s famous Rum Punch.

Take A Walk With A Giant Anteater

At up to 6ft in length these gentle giants are among the nocturnal denizens of the savannahs around Karanambu and are often found foraging in the early morning hours.

Starting with coffee under the trees accompanied by the dawn chorus excursions with the assistance of vaqueros (cowboys) set off at first light for this breath-taking adventure.

Cubs are often spotted Nov-Feb..

Spot A Giant Otter

Known for being noisy and not too shy, family groups of giant otters can (if you are lucky) be observed among the ponds and along the Rupununi River in the Karanambu Area.

A result of over 30 years of conservation, Karanambu boasts a healthy population of giant otters. And one-time orphans sometimes still respond to their names.

Walking Trails And Quiet Spots

Whether you prefer a gentle stroll or a rigorous 3 hour hike is more your speed Karanambu has a trail for you.

On your own or with a guide there is always something to see or discover along the way from birds to otters at play or black caimans on the hunt: the ponds, gallary forests and bush islands at Karanambu are always theming with life, maybe even a jaguar if you are really lucky.

From comfy seats in our library of Guiana classics to the hammocks found on every veranda and among the age old mango trees you can always find some where to put your feet up and have a siesta.

Or if something more intimate is your speed its not too hard to find a quite spot to relax in a hammock, meditate, try forest bathing or just enjoying a sunset where Raleigh once stood in search of El Dorado.
